It’s Not Always About Painting

We are a painting contractor. We paint houses, businesses, and other stuff. Our painters are great at what they do. But, once in a while, we ask them to step out of their painter role and join us in community events or company social activities. This photo is from the recent Christmas Parade in downtown Woodland. Some of our employees and their kids were part of our float and we had a great time bringing our holiday greetings to all the people on the parade route. One of our crew leaders even took the time to make a very real looking chimney for Santa and the kids blew bubbles and jingled bells as we rolled along. It was fun! The next weekend we had our company holiday party. We did something different than this year and went bowling. Every single employee was there! We shared good food and lots of goofing off and having a great time together as the “Brooks Painting Family”. It’s good to have a reminder once in a while that while we are a business, we are also individual people that need some fun and bonding time. The holidays is a great time to do that. We hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the year and wish you a prosperous and joyful 2012!

Here is a little bit of interesting paint trivia:

❖ The color purple became associated with royalty because only aristocrats could afford the expensive pigment.

❖ The White House is white because of the original lime-based whitewash applied to protect its porous surface. It requires 570 gallons of paint to cover its exterior.

❖ The Golden Gate Bridge, completed in 1937, has always been painted the same color, called International Orange

❖ The color wheel was invented by Sir Isaac Newton in 1706

❖ It took Michaelangelo only four years to paint the famous ceiling of the Sistine Chapel (1508-1512) – and 20 years to restore it (1979-1999)

While our painters do have some “fun” when providing our interior and exterior painting services for your home, we do stick by the rules and stay in the lines, just as adults do with most things. Remember when you were a kid and could just grab a brush and paint “just for fun”, perhaps with no plan at all? AH, those were the carefree days! Here is an idea on how to add a little twist the next time you are letting your kids break out the paints and brushes:

Next time you are setting up tempura paints for your little artists to use, try adding table salt to the paint. This will give it some texture and a sparkle when it dries. You can also add some flour with the salt to thicken it up, giving it a 3-D effect and the sparkle too! If it’s thick, use heavy paper and allow plenty of time for it to dry. Most of all, let them have fun (maybe you should join in too)!!
