We’re Not Just about Paint

I often hear from clients and friends that they see Brooks Painting “everywhere”. I even had another contractor tell me they thought we had about 25 vehicles in our fleet. We are fortunate to have a logo that pops with lots of color so when you see a vehicle or our signs they stand out. While we do a lot of work all over Yolo County, Solano County, and the Sacramento area, we really only have 8 vehicles, lots of job signs, and a few banners. I think the real reason people think they see us everywhere is not because of our vehicles, but our involvement in the communities we live and work in. I know we have all heard the term “Shop Local”, and a lot of times people refer to that in terms of retail stores. But what about contractors? We made a commitment years ago to give back financially, and our time, to our local community. We do this through our local chambers of commerce, schools, and charities. When I started this business 16 years ago, I didn’t want to be your average painting company. We are not here just to paint your house, but to be your partner in the community. We want to give back; that is why we started our annual Charity Paint 5 years ago. We have instilled in our employees that this is not just a job, that we are part of our community, and we must be involved. So why do you see us everywhere? Yes we paint a lot of homes and businesses, but it is also because we are part of your fundraisers, sports programs, and other things you care dearly about. Hillel House! They are the Brooks Painting 2011 Charity Paint Giveaway recipient.

Over 6,000 votes were cast by the public; Hillel House received about 50% of the total votes making them this year’s recipient. Here is a short excerpt from their nomination story:

“Hillel House has served as a home away from home for college students in the Davis/Sacramento area. As a non-profit foundation that does not charge for most of it’s services, Hillel relies almost entirely on donations to operate. While the primary goal of Hillel is to offer educational, social, spiritual, and community service opportunities to Jewish college students, Hillel has always opened its doors to all who wish to enter. ”

Hillel has outgrown their current facility and they will use this donation to help with the painting of a new facility to serve the increasing number of students participating in Hillel activities.

One of the Hillel opportunities is for students to participate in community service projects. We are happy to say that Hillel has a desire to “pay it forward” by having some of their students donate time and services to lend a helping hand to a fellow nominee, Mrs. Sheila Keys. It is exciting to see charity passed on to others and we will follow up to see how their project with Mrs. Keys progresses.

Thank You for the over 1,700 Votes that came in for the 2010 Charity Paint Giveaway poll! Summer House received the most votes and will receive up to $10,000 in painting services!

We really appreciate everyone who took their time to vote for our fourth annual Charity Paint Giveaway. It was neck-and-neck for the top spot but in the end the highest number of votes (by less than a 2% margin!) went to Summer House. Brooks Painting is proud to support and give back to our community and look forward to working with Summer House by donating up to $10,000 in time and painting services to this non-profit organization. As runner-up, Dixon Montessori Charter School will receive a free Brooks “Painter for a Day” service.

The mission of Summer House, Inc. is to provide living options and support for adults with developmental disabilities that respect their individual dignity and human worth, and enhance their self-reliance, self-esteem, safety and involvement in the local community.

Brooks’ Charity Paint a Great Success!

This historical building is going to look beautiful when we're done painting!

Even boss Jeremy got out a roller and did 8+ hours of physical labor!

I am happy to report that the 3rd annual Brooks Painting Charity Paint was a great success! We had 18 employees (yes, the office gals included!) and 7 other volunteers log about 200 hours of exterior painting work on Saturday at the old Maxwell Elementary school building in Woodland. Once all the work this building needs is done the Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Center of Yolo County will be able to move in and make great use of it helping many women, children and families. There is still a lot to be done, but we are proud of what was accomplished in one day- you could already see the difference! We are already getting ready to plan next year’s event, so stay tuned!

Saturday, November 14th is the big day!

Brooks Painting Inc. is committed to being involved with and giving back to the communities that we work in. One of the ways we do this is our annual Charity Paint Give-Away. In 2007 we donated our services to painting the buildings, dugouts and backstops at the Davis Little League fields. Last year we donated interior and exterior painting services to the Sharp family of Vacaville. This year Brooks Painting Inc. has chosen the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center (SADVC) of Yolo County as our $10,000 Charity Paint recipient. We will be painting the exterior of the old Maxwell Elementary School in Woodland, which was gifted to SADVC in 2005. They have not been able to move in or use the facility because of all the repairs that are needed. We are glad to be able to be part of helping SADVC get one step closer to serving clients in this expanded facility. All of Brooks Painting employees (even the ones who are not painters!) and other volunteers will be working on the building at 175 North Walnut Street on Saturday, November 14^th. This face lift will be a noticeable start to rejuvenating this historical building for a great community cause!

Brooks Painting is pleased to announce the Yolo County Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center as the recipient of the 2009 Charity Paint Giveaway! This wonderful organization was recently awarded the historic Maxwell Elementary School building — 10,000 square feet — to expand their outreach. However, necessary repairs and renovations must be made before they can utilize the facility. We are proud to partner with local companies and donate our time and services to help this organization aid thousands in Yolo county through prevention, intervention and treatment services.
