Paint Storage Tips

If you are like most people, you have more paint lying around your home than you know what to do with. You are not sure what was painted with which can, if it is still good, where you should store it, or where you can dispose of it. A good painting company will label the paint cans with the color name, and the area painted. Unfortunately this is overlooked a lot of the time. Paint will last a very long time if it is stored properly. Make sure the lids have been firmly sealed. You can place a cloth on the lid and gently hammer it on. Then keep it in your garage. You want to avoid big temperature swings. Keeping it in the garage can help with this; sheds often are not insulated and can drop to freezing and get over 100 degrees during the summer. If you have paint that you no longer need, most county landfills will take 15 gallons on a monthly basis from any household. Check first to see if there are specific dates that they accept this type of waste.
